African culture in general and in particular Ivorian is very rich. Rich in its diversity and the myths that surround it. These myths and legends are not sufficiently exploited and presented to the public.
These stories are yet present in our books and more, they are present in the program of National Education, Sundiata Keita, Abla Poku, Samori Touré, King Béhanzin. All these stories emerge from the messages and values necessary to the appreciation of our cultures.
In the eighteenth century, the kingdom of the Ashanti people, which covers two-thirds of present-day Ghana, saw the Princess Abla Poku. Influential advisor to King Opokou Ware, it is opposed to the war. Poku is a serious obstacle in the path of the old warrior became adept Kongouê Bian witchcraft. Power-hungry, he attempted a coup against the king, his best friend and gets rid of the legitimate heir to the throne. Poku, arrives with his charisma and mystical powers, to avoid a war between the Ashanti favor and those opposed to the regime imposed by Kongouê Bian. She prefers exile confrontation. Kongouê Bian starts chasing them. He is determined to prevent the prophecy is realized that a woman will lead to a new realm as powerful as that of Ashanti.
Note of Intent:
Abla Poku still called Abena Pokua or Abraha Poukou or Aura Poku is a princess who actually existed and the history of the Ashanti kingdom but also that of Côte d'Ivoire. It is indeed the cause of the birth of the Baoulé people, one of the main Ivorian ethnic groups.
Although lived in the eighteenth century, the history of Poku is a striking news. Between the courage of a woman who manages to enforce his ideas in a world run by men, plots and coups, the preference dialog war, exile a fratricidal war, the sacrifice for the good of all ... This is a real way to review the values tend to disappear today.
Like all stories of that time, the Princess Abla Poku has different versions. She even takes on the appearance of legend. We opted for a consensual retaining some historical facts but adding fictional characters and a mystical dimension, also using special effects, humor and fantasy.
This film is also an opportunity to discover the Ashanti culture in particular and that of the Akan group in general through the sets, costumes and rituals.
Promised an exceptional destiny, Abla Poku is initiated since childhood by the priestesses of the king, a sort of commando to protect the throne and to fight mystical forces. Like its congeners, it can not marry or have children. But unlike the others, she sits on the council of elders which despite being the youngest, she is listening to the king. Thus, opposed to violence, she manages to put an end to wars of conquest in favor of negotiated agreements. Mysterious visions allow him to see the future and guide him to his destiny.
Ancient warrior king and best friend, is power hungry. Kongouê is also very bitter. It is part of the king's council and is upset by the position taken by Abla Poku, to encourage dialogue. He does not hesitate to use a group of soldiers led by his son and his mystical powers to fulfill his purpose.
